Esports are becoming a new fan favorite. Esports is video games as sports. There are many video games that can fall into this category such as league of legends. Winning an event usually has a big prize with money and making kids/teens more into video games as a job essentially. I have a few questions on my own such as, since you play this hours on end per day does video games get boring? This makes kids get more intense in a competition about their favorite video game.

Business side

Hattenstone, Simon. “The Rise of ESports: Are Addiction and Corruption the Price of Its Success?” The Guardian, Guardian News and Media, 16 June 2017, www.theguardian.com/sport/2017/jun/16/top-addiction-young-people-gaming-esports.

This article states that there are many Esports games such as counter-strike, Dota 2, Call of Duty, Overwatch and many more. These games have a higher audience because competitive play is always fun to watch and possibly get to yourself. The winnings for certain events has increased over the past years that esports has been a thing. In Poland as this article states there was an event that was close to resembling an annual Olympics. When you hear Olympics you think people who dedicate their lives to train for the biggest world wide event. Now imagine the players who are competing in this event. Who knows the Esports community might be in the Olympics.

Aaron, Jesse. “The Controversial Dichotomy Between Sports and ESports.” The Huffington Post, TheHuffingtonPost.com, 7 Dec. 2017, www.huffingtonpost.com/jesse-aaron/the-controversial-dichoto_b_6692052.html.

There has been controversy in esports in general since it is fairly a new topic. Esports can be considered a mind sport compared to chess rather than a physical sport such as football. In this article people do not want to call these gamers a professional athlete. I do not think this is fair because they follow the same concept as a sport with a different rule set. Also since the short amount of time Esports has been present the rapid growth of the community and media consumption they has been very successful with numbers. The concept of an Esport's hater is that the future of cyber-athletes are not true athletes in which in their own way they are. Maybe this is something to get into if you are amazing and dedicated to this life path.

Observation and Reflection

Esports has been a great rise of new entertainment. Esports may very well be similar to football. Esports has grow over the few years that it has been available only thanks to the communities support for the games and players. This also creates more jobs and more pro gaming practices. Video games are not a physical support such as soccer but it is a mind game that takes tons of skills/practice. The major games that are being played in Esports are not something you could pick up right away and be the very best at it. It also has lead to sponsorship's for players making it easier as a supporting job. I believe that eSports has earned it's right to be called a true sport.
