Gender Lock

Isn't weird that you can only play as a certain gender in some video games. The idea of the video game is to immerse yourself as the character and be able to play as if the character were actually you. There is some exceptions of course, like if the developers made the main character with a great backstory and had the plot revolve around them then at that point is where you can't really argue. The gaming world is a male dominant state so most of the characters are implement with male instincts. I know more males tend to play more video games than females but there should be an option to further enhance the experience of the game. This is a more progressive look on things and I know not everyone is down with this but it wouldn't effect game play. Small subtle things like this might get more marketing because not every game does this.

Business side

Video Games and Gender: Game Representation,

www.radford.edu/~mzorrilla2/thesis/gamerepresentation.html.

In this source this states that males run the gaming industry and have more of a say when it comes to games. This is slowly transforming into a more open minded area but some games still follow this old fashion play style. This source also states that the player based is mostly male which somehow made males more playable, such as attributes displace differently. They also states that some attire wasn't appropriate compared to the males attire. This goes into something even more deep which is that body type is displayed in the western idea of a good body even for males. This was a tatic to further attract mostly males into the games. Females were the minority especially when it came to main/side characters there were at least one but most of them are males.

“On Character Creation And Gender Locking In Games.” MMOs.com, 27 Jan. 2016, mmos.com/editorials/on-character-creation-and-gender-locking-in-games.

This article mostly finds how some games like MMORPGs are gender locked characters. Everyone wants freedom and to be different in massive online games. The idea of a game this big to limit it's features on gender is bad marketing because players want to be unique. While it might save money for the company they might not get that much back in profit. With MMORPGS the games takes weeks to even get to high level. People dedicate themselves to these types of games and the big issue is that they won't be unique in the world. So they create an alternate ego just to be different but end up the same.

Observation & Reflection

I love the first source because this explains how a male dominant game can destroy some humanity points being male orientated. I personally love how games are trying to be different and get out there but surprising I still see this problem today. Growing up in Austin definitely has a different environment than a lot of other places in Texas. As a Texan I truly just want more freedom and isn't that what we're about.

The second article was the icing on the cake to the last source. This was showing a specific reason how a certain type of game has gender limitations. This is a huge deal to gamers because it can be the make it or break part of the game. I find it funny how many people are upset about how some games are like this but I also see both sides of the spectrum. The end of the day you will save money on animations and sprites but the fan based will see this as a negative.
